You could show them Mark 9,1 and make no comment or you could simply shake your head and smile. Whatever you do, be yourself and don't let others pressure you into conforming to the stupid cult.

Need help understanding the Overlapping Generation teaching
by Jules Saturn inso this is a topic that seriously boggles my mind and please correct me if i'm wrong.
to me, the jw definition of the overlapping generation teaching is that the lives of the anointed from 1914 overlap with the lives of the anointed right now.
david splane used the example of fred franz and how he finished his "earthly course" in 1992 but while he did, he had a lot of "contemporaries" that outlived him and are currently living today.

I loathe cult doctrine. It is the conjurors distraction to his bewildered guests by which he draws attention away from view to conceal what is really going on. The JW org is a money grabbing cult which hurts families and steals lives, the doctrines are just sleight of hand and completely without meaning.

The JW org is guilty of language abuse; nothing is ever "special" in a cult.

When is the last time you saw an educated middle class family become Jehovah's Witnesses?
by xjwsrock inwe know from casual observation that if anybody does respond to their preaching/recruiting work it is usually someone that is a social misfit in some way or a person that was indoctrinated early in life.. think about all the nicer neighborhoods witnesses preach in.
if a family of four with a father that is an engineer and a mother who is a medical professional ever walked into a kingdom hall for the first time and said they were studying, people would faint.
lol.... this of course isn't what you would expect from a religion backed by the ultimate intelligent creator.

NK, I really do wonder how a geologist can wrangle his mind to accommodate belief in 'creation' when all the evidence for evolution is in the rocks beneath him?

Thanks for your very interesting account Fulano. Reference the sex and the farmer, whether true or not I think you have to admit that the sister was decisive... a good example of how to act if you disagree with the system.

People who think clearly and have a good education would not find the slightest stimulation from the social misfits and messianic toilet cleaners amongst JWs..........
I realised this many years ago when on an airplane from London to Los Angeles, I was speaking to a successful inventor next to me and I told him that I was a JW. He immediately left the seat and never came back for the rest of the flight!

Ponyo, first big cyber hugs to you for dealing with your dilemma. Life can be trying can't it?
If we are brought up as JWs we are not given a chance to be objective about anything be it religion, child rearing, sex, politics, history or the future. Their teachings are drilled into our brains plus twe are made to feel fearful of transgressing. This is a very unhealthy mental state which most of us on this site have discarded and enjoyed the freedom to be ourselves after leaving the religion.
For the sake of time and the truth I will be blunt: JW values are a complete distortion of reality. The JW org only want unquestioning obedient sheep-like followers doing their bidding. Of course it's only possible to see this after leaving the organisation.
So as a suggestion try and separate these three issues: the truthfulness of the JW organisation, your evaluation of the importance of your marriage and children and lastly your yearning for your lost love. Look at each issue as objectively as you can and try not to see one being contingent on the other to start with.
It is not possible to have everything we want in life, the poor have limited choices and who says that the rich are always the happiest? So it has to be a matter of priority, putting what you need most first, and what you next need most second etc.
Will you be able to live with yourself without Leo? Is the idea of being with Leo just a fantasy and might getting together with him also be followed by disappointment? Would a temporary separation with your husband be a possibility? What if the Bible is right? What if JWs are right? What if they are both wrong? How would the children fare if you divorced their father?
What then is the most important thing in your life?
Naturally you are the only person to decide and you are still young at 28 whatever you think.

There are several issues which follow from the idea of being patient for the fulfillment of prophecy. Here are two more of them:
The first thing to remember is that real time functioning prophets and those who were called "prophets" were either mad or useless or both. No-one ever gave a "divinely inspired" prophecy which was useful to anyone else.
To believe in prophecy is to declare you have no proper education and that you see the world like a child; chaotic, supernatural and subject to the whims of a spirit world.
If prophecy actually worked then scientists amongst others would use prophets. As it is, prophecies are only broadcast to manipulate the gullible, take for example leaders of cults like the governing body of Jehovah's Witnesses; they know that "Bible prophecy" is their trump card in keeping their membership going. Only a few realize the trick being played on the them. The majority of JWs are unthinking true-believers without the curiosity and courage to question governing body's doctrines and predictions, most of which are absurd and plain wrong and have been proved to be so, as Freddo has pointed out, for parts of three centuries.
Secondly the context of the Biblical "end times prophecy" was only to do with Jews under Roman rule. The Jews like all the ancients, were suckers for supernatural omens and quite blatantly the prophecy (mug's game remember) was just for Jews and just for that generation and none other. Luke 21;32,33 and Mark 9;1
The GB and everyone else should have noted that the Bible got it completely wrong so why continue to put faith in the Bible as a book of prophecy?
